This year's workshop in May 2011 was very well attended and deemed to have been a resounding success. Master Trainer: Ms Elva Arthy is going to run another Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor/Leader training course on the 24th and 25th March 2012 as a follow up.

Cost:

Part I Instructor Training is $440.00

Cost includes Tai Chi for Arthritis DVD, Resource Book -Teaching Tai Chi Effectively by Dr Paul Lam, Tai Chi for Arthritis Wall Chart, Handbook and Certificate

Part II and Update is $380.00 [plus course materials as required]

Week end workshop costs includes morning and afternoon tea.

Sucessful completion of the two days includes 15 CEC points for Instructors accredited with Fitness Australia. 

Special Notes:

Persons who wish to qualify as a Tai Chi for Arthritis [TCA] Instructor accredited with Dr Paul Lam's TCA program, must be suitably qualified and agree to certain requirements necessary for accreditation.

Suitable Qualifications for instructor / leaders are as follows:

  • Tai Chi teacher
  • Advanced Tai Chi Student
  • Physiotherapist or Physical Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Health Professional (doctors, traditional therapist)
  • Accredited / Certified Exercise Instructor
  • Nurse
  • Certified Allied Health Assistants
  • Other similar qualification

To be eligible to receive an instructors/leaders certificate you are required to:

  • Learn the Twelve Forms from the DVD to the best of your ability prior to attending the workshop
  • Read the Tai Chi for Arthritis Handbook
  • Complete an application form and questionnaire and return to the local organiser two weeks prior to the workshop
  • Hold a current certificate of an accredited first aid course or similar qualification eg RN or MBBS
  • Continue to practice and come back for update every two years
  • Pass a written test

At the completion of the workshop, you will learn:
  • The 12-movement Sun style Tai Chi
  • How to teach this program effectively and safely
  • How Tai Chi improve health and arthritis
  • Dr Lam's stepwise progressive teaching method
  • Qigong for Arthritis
  • Essential knowledge about arthritis
  • Understand the essential principles of Tai Chi
  • To improve your level of Tai Chi

In this most stimulating and useful workshop, Dr Lam will be sharing with you the deeper meanings of the Tai Chi principles and how to incorporate them into your forms. He will then explore how the Qi (vital life force) works and how it relates to the Tai Chi principles. All theories and practice will guide you on how to store, regenerate and deliver energy not only with Tai Chi for Arthritis, but also with all Tai Chi forms. This workshop will facilitate you to reach a higher level and find more enjoyment from your practice.

This workshop would be, with prior notice, an update for the Tai Chi for Arthritis. If you require updates in any of the other Tai Chi for Health programs, a nominal fee applies and you are required to complete an assignment. Dr Paul Lam, a family physician and a tai chi master, is a world leader in the field of tai chi for health improvement.

Dr Lam has been studying tai chi for more than 30 years. He is proficient in different styles, his students have won many gold medal in National and International competitions. Dr Lam has worked with many tai chi experts and numerous instructors. He enjoys sharng his knowledge and depth of tai chi with others. Dr Lam has integrated his medical knowledge with tai chi training to make tai chi more effective in health and internal power.

In Townsville we have a number of ongoing classes available in a variety of Tai Chi for ... 'Health' programs that are non-combat, non-contact and non-competitive in nature.

We offer programs:

All modified from the 'Sun Style' Tai Chi.
Also available are classes in Tai Chi
for ... 'Diabetes'
A modified combination of the 'Yang and Sun Styles'.

All welcome. No previous experience required.

Wear cool, loose clothing, comfortable walking or thin soled shoes and please bring a plastic bottle of cool drinking water.

These Tai Chi for ... 'Health' programs will start you with the basic moves (Forms) for beginners and lead you through to the more advanced moves (Forms).
All our programs are based on the modified ‘Sun and Yang' styles of Tai Chi.
Also included will be the 12 safe warm up exercises and a basic Qi Gong breathing exercise to help you relax. With ongoing classes and continued practice, you should develop better balance, improved blood circulation, some relief from joint pain and feel a reduction in stress levels as well as notice improvement in concentration levels.
Overall, Tai Chi aims to achieve an improvement in health and well being.
